Robert Soreng determined it as Poa bulbosa subsp. vivipara in 2000. More recently Robert Soreng redetermined it as Poa pelasgis H. Scholz var. prolifera (Soreng ined.) in EMu in 2016. The specimen has both seeds forming normal spikelets, and some viviparous spikelets. But the nuclear genes Paterson studied show that it shares single copy nuclear trx and CDO104 genotypes with Poa bulbosa (at least Poa bulbosa in part)
