Narrative
pistachio 97 rootstock terebinthus. Selection No. 23 (D-20-7) from Pistacia vera (P.I. 73396). Received as seed numbered PI 73396 and located at D20-7 at former PI Station, Chico, California. Later renumbered PI 150646 and named Chico though the author of this name is uncertain. Came as P. vera seed from Aintab Turkey although actually it is a hybrid. Male parent unknown. Prolific pollen producer but blooms much too early for Kerman. Pollen stores well and would be one to consider for large scale aritfical pollination by machine.
