Narrative
PI 125249 is a seedling of PI 65870 (a thin-shelled variety which ripens at the end of August) which came from Fa Hua Ssu Temple near Beijing, China, in October, 1925. It was obtained by Serr and Forde from the USDA Plant Introduction Station in Chico, California. PI 125249 is earlier in leafing and harvesting than Payne and is protogynous. The nut is large with a high percent kernel. Although in one year it is listed as being 75% fruitful on lateral buds, in other years the percentage is so low that it must be considered a terminal bearing cultivar. This introduction is only available at the US National Germplasm Repository-Davis.
