Narrative
A deciduos shrub or small tree, native to central China, with densely tomentose branchlets, broadly ovate lvs. 4-7 inches long, and fls. opening in winter having sepals rusty tomentose outside and purple inside while the petals are golden yellow with a reddish base. It is said to be the handsomest of the witch-hazels.
