Comment: Very large fruit for pashia. Local boy said it was grafted; must be a local selection. Fruit is eaten locally. Very hard and astringent now, moderate amont stone cells, seeds appear mature. Must wait until flesh is dark brown and soft to eat.

Narrative
Pyrus pashia, local name 'Tangay' in Pushtoo. Both seed and scions collected from cultivated tree by M. Thompson and D. Brenner on 19 October, 1988 in Pakistan (Northwest Frontier, Swat District) on the SE side of Shangla Pass, at the top of a road cut. Tree growing at 2070 m elevation; Latitude 34 54' N, Longitude 72 40' E. Collectors note 'Very large fruit for P. pashia. Local boy said it was grafted; therefore it must be a local selection. Fruit is eaten by local people. Fruit is very hard and astringent now, but seeds appear mature. Must wait until flesh is dark brown and soft to eat fruit.' - Collection notebook, 1988.
