Description:
Immediate parents are Cornell breeding lines 48-184 and 48-143. Mosaic breeding line 48-184 derived from Chinese Long x White Spine (developed by Dr. O. H. Elmer, Kansas State College). This line 19B-6-4-1-1-9-2-14-6, was crossed with Cubit from which variety Niagara was selected. A sister selection of Niagara was crossed with Marketer to give rise to 48-184 with good mosaic resistance and fruit shape, but undesirable fruit color. Meanwhile, Chinese Long was crossed with slicing variety A & C, and an F2 plant of this cross was in turn crossed with Cubit giving rise to 48-143 which had good color, shape, and mosaic resistance but fruit that were too soft and spongy. Suprisingly, Tablegreen has darker fruit color and higher resistance to mosaic than either of its parents. Trialed under Breeding number 55-610; released May 1959.
