Comments: A few spp. of small trees of e. Asia; Ivs. simple, sometimes shallowly lobed; fls. before the lvs. or with them, white, in small umbels, calyx and pedicels tomentose, petals 5, clawed, stamens 30-50, ovary 5 celled. Occasionally planted as an ornamental in the warmer parts of the U.S.; the fruits sometimes used in other countries for cooking.
