Per Hedrick (see citation): "Vigorous and comparatively hardy; stamens depressed; cluster medium, ovate, short; berries loarge to very large, black with white specks; juicy; 'better than Scuppernong'". Per Munson (see citation): "...clusters to have 15 to 30 berries when set full, berry large, round, black, skin much thinner, and pulp tenderer than Scuppernong, ripens about a week earlier."
