Narrative
Type = Plum. A selection made by Herb Barret from P. maritima made by him from seedlings sent to him from the Arnold Arboritum in the mid 1950's by Karl Sax. Reportedly latest blooming Prunus. Flowers around mid-May at the U. of Illinois, where apricots bloom mid-April. Beautiful ornamental, snowball blooms typical of beach plum with shades of red in the Fall. It is self-sterile. Named after Barrett's wife. He used in breeding to produce the BBX series, including rootstock selection BBX-1, a hybrid of Brooks P. besseyi X Patricia.
