Environment description: high on Xian He Ping Mountain karst terrain. very rough, rocky limestone outcroppings scattered peaks with small valleys among them abundant rainfall and favorable climate
Comment: Exploration for Rubus Germplasm in Guizhou Province, People's Republic of China. A China-USA Collaborative Project with the Nanjing Botanical Garden, Guizhou Botanical Garden and the USDA-ARS-National Clonal Germplasm Repository-Corvallis. Identity not certain. Two types of fruit were collected from this plant - small mature black fruit with normal seeds and larger, immature red fruit with greatly enlarged seeds which later proved to be devoid of embryos.

Narrative
Closer examination revealed a larva of some insect, whose identity needs to be established. Seeds collected, and herbarium specimens, with calyces and receptacles where fruit was removed.
