Type = Cherry. Per Hortus Third (see citation): "To 80 ft. or more, with dark outer bark, aromatic inner bark; lvs. lanceolate-oblong to oblong-ovate, acuminate to acute, crenate-serrate, 1 1/2 to 6 inches, long, shining above, glabrous or nearly so beneath; racemes 2-6 inches long; flowers to 5/16 inches across, fragrant, calyx persistant in fr.; fr. globose, red to purple-black, sweetish or bitter. Nov. Sc. to N. Dak., s. to Fla. and Tex. Zone 4. Bark has been used medicinally and the wood used for cabinet making and interior work." Per NCGR, Davis notes: on IR-2 1989 tree removal list - added to collection because the same clone (as DPRU 470) had been lost from the collection.
