Narrative
Parentage unknown; discovered in 1926. Nut: eastern black walnut; average 20.7 grams per nut; cracking quality very good; kernel averages 26.6% of nut; pellicle easily removed. Tree: bears well in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Evaluation of flowering and fruiting done by W.A. Gustafson and Todd M. Morrisssey at the southeast Research and Extension Center, Lincoln, NE in 1989 with the following results: bud break: April 20; pollen shed: May 15; pistillate receptivity: May 15; maturation date: October 6; number of days from last spring freeze to maturation: 179; accumulated growing degree days from the last spring freeze to maturation: 3341; accumulated heat units from the last spring freeze to maturation(base 50 degrees F): 3931. Additional evaluation was done by W.A. Gustafson and Todd M. Morrissey (1989, Same location) during comparison of 40 black walnut cultivars/clones for protandry (Type I)/protogyny (Type II) and adequated cross pollination with the following results: Stigma receptivity=May 11-17; pollen shedding=May 17-19.
