Orig. in Highfields, New South Wales, Australia, on the Groswell property by R.G. Kebby, N.S.W. Dept. of Agric. Named and introd. in 1965 by the California Macadamia Society, Carlsbad, CA. Macadamia tetraphylla x M. integrifolia; discovered in 1954, tested in Australia as NSW 44, imported into HI in 1954 and tested as HAES695; brought to CA in 1959 by Dept. of Hort. Science, Univ. of CA, Riverside. Fruit: husk round, dull green, thin slightly rough, apical point sharp, tends to split on tree at maturity before fruit drops. Nut medium to large, 143-176/kg, 2.2-3.8 cm dia., dark brown, round, shell thin on side (0.8-.15 cm) thicker toward base, kernel 40% of nut, round slightly flattened, white, texture and flavor very good, oil content 70-75% at 3% kernel moisture, 85% grade A kernels no culls, fruiting season Jan. to March in CA. Tree also intro. for ornamental purposes, handsome, upright branches spreading somewhat, new leaves with reddish-bronze blades and bright red midribs and veins, 300-500 bright pink flowers, racemes up to 14".
